Gaziabad police registered a suo motu FIR against a constable, identified as Vikas Kumar, on August 16, 2023, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a man.
The complainant, identified as Manoj Kumar, alleged that he was stopped by Kumar while he was driving his car on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Kumar then demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000, threatening to book him in a false case if he did not pay up.
Manoj Kumar then approached the Gaziabad police and filed a complaint. The police then registered a suo motu FIR against Kumar and launched an investigation.
Kumar has been suspended from the police force pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about corruption in the police force. The police have assured that they will take strict action against the errant constable.
